1. About SailQuiz

SailQuiz (sailquiz.com) is an independent quiz-based study app for sailing theory, available for iOS and Android. It is operated under the brand name “SailQuiz”. The website exists to describe the app and provide support and legal information.

SailQuiz is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or approved by the Royal Yachting Association (RYA), the American Sailing Association (ASA), US Sailing, or any other official sailing body. References to them or their syllabuses are made solely to describe the subject matter our quizzes cover and do not imply any official connection.

2. The service

SailQuiz provides interactive quizzes and learning materials designed to help users study sailing theory topics such as COLREGS, navigation, tides, weather, and seamanship. Features include progress tracking, spaced repetition, and mastery indicators.

The SailQuiz app is available on the Apple App Store (iPhone, iPad, and Apple silicon Macs) and on Google Play (Android). The app is free to download and includes a free tier plus optional Premium subscriptions billed by Apple or Google. The app requires no account and stores your learning progress locally on your device.

2a. Subscriptions & billing

iOS subscriptions.On iOS, Premium is sold, billed, and renewed by Apple through the App Store in accordance with Apple's standard EULA and payment terms. Exact pricing is displayed in the app before purchase and may vary by country and currency. Subscriptions auto-renew at the listed price until cancelled. You can manage or cancel the subscription at any time from iOS Settings → your name → Subscriptions → SailQuiz.

Android subscriptions.On Android, Premium is sold, billed, and renewed by Google through Google Play in accordance with Google's payment terms. You can manage or cancel the subscription at any time from Google Play → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions.

Refunds. Refunds for iOS subscriptions are governed by Apple and must be requested through reportaproblem.apple.com. Refunds for Android subscriptions are governed by Google and handled through Google Play. Your mandatory consumer rights under EU or local law (where applicable) are not affected by this clause.

Legacy iOS purchases. Users who bought the earlier one-time-purchase version of the iOS app keep lifetime Premium access to the current iOS app at no additional cost.

Free tier. The app includes a free tier, which currently allows one full quiz and up to three Daily Challenge rounds per day; limits may change over time and will be reflected in the app.

3. No accounts

SailQuiz does not offer or require user accounts. Your learning progress is stored locally on your device and is removed when you delete the app. Premium subscriptions are tied to your Apple ID or Google account and can be restored on a new device through the “Restore purchases” option in the app.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• use the service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable law or regulation;
• attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the service or related systems;
• scrape, copy, or systematically download content for redistribution or commercial use;
• interfere with the proper functioning of the service or impose an unreasonable load on our infrastructure;
• circumvent, or attempt to circumvent, subscription entitlements or free-tier limits.

5. Intellectual property

All content on SailQuiz — including quiz questions, explanations, design, code, and graphics — is owned by SailQuiz or used under license. You may use the content for personal study only. You may not reproduce, distribute, or commercially exploit it without written permission.

“RYA” and “Royal Yachting Association” are trademarks of the Royal Yachting Association. Their use on this site is purely descriptive.

6. Educational disclaimer

SailQuiz is a study and revision aid. It does not provide official certification, replace accredited training courses, substitute for professional instruction, or guarantee exam success.

We aim to keep our content accurate and up to date, but we do not guarantee that all information is complete, current, or error-free. Maritime regulations, charts, and procedures change — always verify important information against official and current sources before relying on it at sea.

7. Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by applicable law, SailQuiz is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components.

Our total liability to you for any claims arising from your use of the service is limited to the amount you have paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or €50, whichever is greater. This does not affect any rights that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law, including EU consumer protection rules.

8. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will post a prominent notice on the site or in the app. Continued use of the service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

9. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the Netherlands. Any disputes that cannot be resolved amicably may be submitted to the competent court in the Netherlands.

If you are an EU consumer, you retain any mandatory consumer protections provided by the law of your country of residence. You may also use the EU Online Dispute Resolution platform.
